Detective Rio and the Lost Youth Pledge Manuscript

Detective Rio awoke from a restless sleep as the phone rang sharply in the corner of his room.

An emergency message from the National Museum: the original Youth Pledge manuscript had disappeared.

The news hit him like a thunderclap—especially with the national celebration of Youth Pledge Day only days away.

Rio rushed to the museum, where chaos filled the air. Curators and staff moved frantically, their faces pale with panic.

“Detective,” said the head curator, his voice trembling, “we must find it. That manuscript is the soul of our nation.”

Rio nodded solemnly and began his investigation. He carefully examined the exhibition hall, studying every detail—the shattered display glass, the footprints on the marble floor, and the faint scent of old parchment lingering in the air.

Then, something caught his eye: an antique clock, dusty and cracked, lying on the floor beneath the shattered case.

Its hands had stopped—frozen precisely at 10:00 p.m.

Rio frowned. It felt deliberate, as if the clock itself was trying to tell him something.

Without hesitation, he picked it up.

The moment his fingers touched the cold brass surface, a surge of energy coursed through him. A powerful pull yanked him off his feet. The world around him blurred into a spinning tunnel of light—then darkness.

When Rio opened his eyes, the air was different. The streets were lined with colonial buildings, and the sound of horse carriages echoed through the night.

He was no longer in the present.

He was standing in Jakarta, 1928 — during the Second Youth Congress.

The Night of the Oath

Rio watched as young men and women filled a modest hall, their eyes bright with passion and hope.

At the front, a speaker was proclaiming the words that would forever unite the archipelago—the Youth Pledge (Sumpah Pemuda).

But as Rio absorbed the moment, something unusual caught his attention.

In the far corner, a shadowy figure stood watching, his gaze fixed on the newly written manuscript resting on the table.

His face was cold and expressionless, yet his movements were deliberate, calculating.

Moments later, the man slipped quietly out of the building, carrying a small leather pouch.

Rio’s instincts kicked in.

He followed the man through the narrow streets of old Batavia, his footsteps silent on the cobblestones.

At the end of a dimly lit alley, the man met with another figure—a Dutch colonial officer in uniform.

Hidden behind a wall, Rio listened closely.

“If this document spreads,” said the officer in Dutch-accented Bahasa, “the natives will unite. We must destroy it before dawn.”

Rage burned within Rio. He knew what that manuscript meant—the declaration of unity, language, and homeland that would one day shape a nation.

He stepped out from the shadows. “Not tonight,” he said coldly.

The Midnight Battle

Under the silver glow of the moon, a fierce struggle erupted.

Rio fought with determination, blocking strikes and countering with precision. The thief lunged forward with a dagger, but Rio dodged, twisting his arm and forcing him to drop the pouch.

The manuscript spilled out, fluttering onto the cobblestones like a fragile piece of history itself.

The Dutch officer fled, and the mysterious thief—breathing heavily, his eyes burning with hatred—retreated into the darkness.

As he vanished, he hissed, “This isn’t over, detective. The past always finds a way to fight back.”

Rio clutched the manuscript tightly, his heart pounding.

Return of the Pledge

He hurried back to the congress hall and placed the manuscript on the table. The young delegates looked at him in awe, their eyes filled with gratitude and tears.

“Thank you,” whispered one of them. “This document... it carries our dreams.”

Before Rio could say anything, he felt a familiar vibration in his pocket. The antique clock he had taken began to tremble violently, glowing faintly.

A swirl of light enveloped him once again.

When the light faded, Rio was back in the National Museum—standing exactly where he had begun.

In his hands, the original Youth Pledge manuscript rested safely, as if it had never left.

The curators gasped, their faces lighting up with relief and disbelief. Cheers and applause echoed through the exhibition hall as they gently returned the document to its display case, ready for the upcoming national commemoration.

Rio stepped back, exhaling deeply. The adrenaline was gone, but pride filled his chest.

He looked at the manuscript one last time and whispered to himself:

“History is the witness of our struggle.
It must be protected—so the future never loses its way.”

With quiet resolve, Detective Rio walked out of the museum into the night,

the sound of Jakarta’s city lights blending softly with the heartbeat of history he had just saved.

Rio kembali ke gedung kongres, menyerahkan naskah kepada para pemuda. Mereka berterima kasih dengan air mata haru. Sebelum Rio sempat menjelaskan siapa dirinya, jam antik di sakunya bergetar hebat, menariknya kembali ke masa kini.
